A date for your diary is SciFest 2009. The science competitions will all take place across Ireland in late April/early May 2009. All second-level students are invited to participate.
SciFest is a local one-day science fair held in third-level colleges and includes:
- A competition and exhibition of projects
- Science talks
- Science demonstrations in the college laboratories
- A prize-giving ceremony
SciFest aims to encourage a love of science through an investigative approach to learning and to provide an opportunity for students to display their scientific discoveries.
Big success
The inaugural SciFest was held in IT Tallaght in 2006, then launched nationwide in September 2007.
SciFest 2008 was a resounding success: over 1,600 students from 100 schools across the coutnry took part with some 700 projects, of which 110 were Discover Sensors projects.
Scifest is jointly funded by Intel and Discover Science & Engineering, and is supported by a number of other partners. Besides making science interesting and fun, the project creates a valuable link between the second- and third-level education sectors and between education and industry.
