The Science Communications Bus, which is promoting Dublin’s role as 2012 City of Science, has arrived in Turin for a major international science conference.
To create awareness of the event, the team of six Science Ambassadors have been travelling on the double-decker bus across Europe from Dublin to Turin, this year’s host city of the Euroscience Open Forum (ESOF).
The bus set out from Dublin on 20 June and has visited Liverpool, Brussels and Amsterdam. ESOF is a biennial pan-European meeting dedicated to scientific research and innovation.
Win a great prize
And while temperatures at the weekend were soaring to 35C outside, the bus’s upper deck was hotter still after the air conditioner failed. But that’s not the only problem that the Science Ambassadors have.
As they explain in their latest blog post this morning, they need a Turin Bus theme song – and they need your help.
Check out their blog for more details and the great prize package, and send your suggestions to the team on Twitter at @dubscience2012.
Dublin and science
The Science Ambassadors showed visiting Junior Minister for Science Conor Lenihan around their temporary “office” in Turin on Saturday. Later this week they will begin their return journey to Ireland, with further stops in Toulouse and Barcelona.
The project carries the simple message, “Dublin is a good place to do science,” says Peter Brabazon, Programme Director, Discover Science & Engineering (DSE).
Funding for the expedition comes from DSE, as well as Dublin City, Fáilte Ireland and the Office of the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Government.
