Podcast about STEM conference

Published 22 March 2011

The recent Atlantic Corridor conference on science education promotion is the subject of the latest podcast by Scibernia, the series of “bi-monthly podcasts exploring science in Ireland and beyond”.

The podcast includes:

  • An interview with the Guardian newspaper’s “Bad Science” columnist Ben Goldacre, who was a keynote speaker at the conference in Tullamore. He explains how bad science can be used in schools, and ponders why some people are afraid of science
  • Thad Starner from the Georgia Institute of Technology on how wearing a computer can help you to multitask – he has been wearing his own customised computer since 1993
  • Science teacher and blogger Humphrey Jones on why science in schools needs to be urgently modernised to reward critical thinking and to include the latest developments and discoveries
