Learn about the science of ‘Star Wars’

Published 20 April 2012

“Imagine you’ve just walked onto a film set and you’re surrounded by Y-Wings, AT-ST Scoutwalkers, R2D2, actors, Stormtroopers, and even the dark lord Darth Vader himself…”

That’s how Invasion Dublin announces itself. The show returns to Ireland just before the May bank holiday weekend (Friday 4 May) at Citywest Dublin. It features life-size replica props and sets from the “Star Wars” trilogy of films and stars from the original series.

The event includes an educational programme to inform, entertain and educate students on disciplines related to the “Star Wars” films, from robotics and animation to sculpting and acting. Among the education sessions:

  • Learnit.ie will be providing Lego workshops
  • Astronomy Ireland will be using the theme of astronomy and space science to encourage pupils to develop a love of science
  • In “From Sci-Fi to Sci-Fact”, Pete Redmond will explain how the latest technologies are blurring the boundaries of science fiction and real science and technology, from death stars to light sabres

There will also be Q&A sessions with actors and guests including voice artist James Arnold Taylor, Mike Edmonds, Jeremy Bulloch and Billy Dee Williams.
