The Khan Academy, the accidental brainchild of Salman Khan, is set to expand its resources thanks in part to a $5 million donation from The O’Sullivan Foundation.
Salman Khan’s hugely popular website started when he created YouTube videos to provide virtual maths tutorials for his young cousin. Khan’s videos gathered enough attention to prompt him to quit his job and focus full-time on creating the Khan Academy.
The website features 2,600 educational videos and practice exercises of varying levels of difficulty in maths, science, history, geography, the arts and humanities.
The O’Sullivan Foundation is a fund created by Irish entrepreneur and Avego CEO Sean O’Sullivan. Sean is also the new Dragon in RTÉ’s “Dragons’ Den” TV series.
With the new funds, the Academy will increase its faculty of tutors, expand its content to encompass a broader range of subjects and develop the material to fit more appropriately with school curricula.
