Irish scientists fight cybercrime

Published 8 June 2009

University College Dublin and Interpol, the international police organisation, have teamed up to fight cybercrime.

The UCD Centre for Cybercrime Investigation will help to train law enforcement officers around the world in the latest scientific techniques for investigating online crime and capturing and preserving electronic evidence.

UCD will also help to develop training programmes for the Computer Online Forensic Evidence Extractor (COFEE).
Internet crimes can be difficult to investigate, as they cross borders, spread rapidly and are often very complex.

With this agreement, Irish scientists, at the cutting edge of new investigation techniques, will play a part in fighting against eCrime in Interpol’s 187 member states.
