Engineered! A Week of Wonder

Published 15 January 2009

The third annual Engineers Week, incorporating “Engineered! A Week of Wonder”, will take place from 9-13 February 2009.

The week promotes and celebrates the world of engineering through a variety of public events and activities across the island, and over 14,000 people are expected to take part in the 2009 week.

If you attend any “Engineered! A Week of Wonder” event you will be in with the chance to win a trip to the Space Expo in the Netherlands. The winner and his or her family will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discover what it is like to live and work in space.

STEPS to engineering

STEPS to engineering, the Engineers Ireland schools awareness programme, is responsible for coordinating “Engineered! A Week of Wonder”. The programme aims to encourage primary and post-primary students to explore the world of engineering and science and to raise awareness about engineering as a career.

STEPS to engineering coordinates a wide range programmes throughout the academic year for primary and secondary school students. In 2008, over 80,000 students participated in STEPS to engineering activities.

STEPS to engineering is supported by Discover Science & Engineering, the Department of Education and Science, FÁS and industry.
