Limerick Institute of Technology is one of 11 partners from across the EU who are taking part in the Chemistry is All Around Network project.

Ten Irish teachers and five scientific experts have joined the Irish team for the initiative, which aims to promote a positive image of chemistry to students of all ages.

The team members are currently collecting and reviewing existing ICT-based resources for chemistry teaching from the partner countries, and these are being uploaded onto the project portal for sharing among the partners and ultimately with the wider teaching and learning community.

About ‘Chemistry Is All Around’

The Chemistry Is All Around Network project is funded by the European Commission in the framework of the Lifelong Learning Programme (Comenius Subprogramme – Multilateral Networks).

Its specific aims are to:

  • Enhance the interest for chemistry, by sharing the most effective strategies for learning and teaching this subject
  • Present chemistry under a renewed and positive attitude, by giving evidence to how it affects everyday life and how it can contribute to the explanation of many everyday phenomena
  • Improve science teaching methodologies through the cooperation between teachers and experts
  • Create a network among educational institutions for the exchange and comparison of experiences in order to fill in the gap between the world of scientists and school teachers
