Festival of Farming and Food – SFI ‘Science Rising’ at Teagasc
Teagasc – the Agriculture and Food Development Authority – is the national body providing integrated research, advisory and training services to the agriculture and food industry and rural communities. Teagasc supports science-based innovation in agriculture and food, using new technologies in plant and animal genomics, food processing and precision agriculture.
Teagasc Research Centres around the country (Carlow, Cork, Dublin, Galway, Meath and Wexford) will open their doors to second level and third level students and the general public and find out about the work it does to ensure a competitive and sustainable agri-food sector. Attendees will get to meet Teagasc researchers, get ‘hands on’ in our interactive exhibits and learn about STEM careers at Teagasc.
Science Rising: What kind of foods did our ancestors eat 100 years ago? And what impacts have advances in science and technology over the last 100 years had on agriculture, food processing, nutrition and food safety? While showcasing current technologies used in agri-food research, the centenary will feature prominently in Teagasc’s programme and all attendees will receive a free copy of ‘Farming & Country Life 1916’.
